WCL-5 update

18 member squad selected for close camp
18 members have been named for close camp for upcoming WCL division 5 to be held in Kathmandu from Feb 22.

Sharad Vesawkar excluded
Big news is that S.Vesawkar, one of the great names in cricket, has been excluded from WCL-5. This is after his poor form in recent ACC T-20 and also owing to his health problems (piles- a national daily wrote today). From the recent ACC T20, Ajay Rajbanshi and Chandra Sawad who were in the 18-member squad for the T20 have also been missed out, giving way to U-15 captain Prithu Baskota, Subash Khakurel and Dhirendra Chand . Welcome Youngsters

Paras captain, Gyanendra vice- captain
Paras Khadka has been continued as captain, while SAG-U23 captain Gyanendra Malla has been named vice captain.

USA interested in practice match
USA has expressed its interest to CAN to play practice matches in Nepal. 2 other teams have also shown interest. however, it isn’t confirmed as ground may not be available.

Joint training camp
A joint training camp for the WCL-5 and the SAG is beginning on December 30. Not ideal for two forms of game, but definitely cost- effective. Also, since there is a common coach and some players are common to both teams, will definitely do good than harm.

Teams participating
Nepal, USA, Fiji, Jersey, Singapore, Bahrain

Practice match with Sri Lankan team
A team from Sri Lanka, probably A team might come to nepal to give nepal some practice before the big tournament.

Nepal cricket: where is it going?

This always comes to my mind. Is our cricket going forward? Or backward?
So, I have come up with certain positives and negatives of Nepal cricket
Positives
1. very good players (at least we think so)
2. good coach (!) he really is, I think
3. Now we are ranked about 27th in world (cricketeurope.com) (i.e.17th after regular 10). This is good as compared to other fields. (we are below 175 in football and 170 or below in human development), out of about 200 countries in the world. (Believe it or not) In that matter, it’s great
4. Good support from fans. (thousands of spectators and live coverage of all matches played here). No other team of this level might have this
5. Good public interest (as above)
6. Increasing interest of players. (according to a report, last year Nepal had one of the best increase in no. of players playing all levels.)
7. Increasing influence of T20 (interesting, since our batters didn’t last long earlier now it’s good for them) (Also, now game completes faster, so much interest)
8. TU ground is really good bowling pitch, so our bowlers are good (my view)
Negatives
1. Poor nation, poor CAN, poor players. (explain many things)
2. lack of regular trainings
3. players need to work to earn, can’t concentrate on playing
4. lack of proper match practice
5. my main concern- lack of before-tournament training::: 15- day trainings before major tournaments isn’t gonna help
6. lack of killer instinct in players——- losing semi-finals 4 in 4 years of major tournaments reaching final of each was rewarding

coming future
1. ACC T20 from 3rd week of November. My best wishes to the team. Last time we were 4th out of 5 teams in the group. This time I hope we will at least reach semi final
2. rumors about change of captain. May anything that happen, happen for the good
3. cricket has been included in SAG. Now we will get to play with the likes of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. Very good opportunity to learn.
4. Top 3 of ACC may get chance in Asian games. (wow!
5. ICC WCL in Feb. in home ground. Start preparing and who knows?
BEST OF LUCK
